Outreach Activities

Acharya Narendra Dev College organizes various outreach activities to engage school and undergraduate students, promoting education and scientific awareness. Here are some of the key activities typically organized:

The PRAYAS (Promoting and Accelerating Young and Aspiring Researchers’ Activities in Science) Scheme by NCERT aims to foster a research outlook among school students. This initiative encourages students to engage in scientific research, nurturing their curiosity and innovative thinking from a young age. This year College also has been granted PRAYAAS PROJECT funded by NCERT. Lovely Public Sr. Sec. School, P.D. Vihar was selected in collaboration with HEI partner ANDC.

These outreach activities help bridge the gap between academic institutions and the community, fostering a culture of learning and curiosity among students.

2 Visit organized for UG Students of Zakir Husain Delhi College (ZHC) and Shivaji College to Sericulture Skill Centre of Acharya Narendra Dev College (ANDC) with practical exposure to sericulture, enhancing their understanding of the subject through hands-on experience at the Sericulture Skill Centre of Acharya Narendra Dev College (ANDC). Students participated in hands-on activities such as feeding silkworms, identifying different stages of silkworm development, and practicing silk reeling techniques under the guidance of the centre's staff. 3 SPIE Optics education outreach programme 2023: SPIE, the International Society for Optics and Photonics, has a longstanding commitment to outreach initiatives. The College was proud recipients of SPIE Optics Outreach Education Programme 2023 grant. Student Chapter at Acharya Narendra Dev College (ANDC) adopted a unique approach for its Optics Outreach Activity in 2023 across various schools. This approach places practical,hands-on experiences at the forefront of the outreach program. ANDC SPIE Student Chapter conducted workshops in 22 schools across Delhi. Notably, half of these schools were government-funded institutions with a total student participation of around 1200. The workshops were conducted in the months of August and September, 2023.The culmination of SPIE Optics Outreach Education Programme marked a significant event in the annals of Acharya Narendra Dev College, as we had the privilege of hosting a distinguished physicist and educator, Professor H.C. Verma, as our Chief Guest on 06 October, 2023.As part of our initiative, we distributed Ray Optics Kits and optical instruments, which were conceived and designed by the Chapter, to every participating school free of charge. Department of Biomedical Science organized Career Counselling Series: Panel Discussion With Alumni on April 11, 2023: Panel Discussion With Alumni’ was organised by the department on April 11, 2023. The event was presided by alumni of the Department of Biomedical Science - Mr Harshit Arora, Mr Alok Anand, Mr Mrinal Chawla, Mr Animesh Kar, Dr Pawan Mehtotra and Ms Sonanjali Aneja. A total of 105 students registered for the event.

Training on E- waste and its hazards: E- waste refers to any unwanted electronic device or Cathode Ray Tube [CRT] and is classified as universal waste. NSS@ANDC organized sessions on hazards of E - waste on January 17, 2023 in collaboration with Eco Club Paritantra. The volunteers of NSS@ANDC participated and shared views on various hazards such as E- waste can be toxic, is not biodegradable and accumulates in the environment, in the soil, air, water and living things.

12 Outreach Workshop on “Cell and Molecular Biology Techniques”: In commemoration of centenary celebrations of University of Delhi, Acharya Narendra Dev College organized an Outreach Workshop on C ell and Molecular Biology Techniques under the patronage of Prof. Ravi Toteja, Principal, ANDC. 24 B.Sc students and 26 M.Sc students from GD Goenka University, Gurugram, Delhi were given complete hands-on training on cell and molecular biological techniques like Preparation of Competent cells and Transformation Experiment, making of mitosis slides, plasmid DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction, agarose gel electrophoresis and restriction mapping. A workshop on Personality Development and Menstrual Hygiene was organized on September 26, 2022 in collaboration with the Enactus Society of ANDC, the Millions Minds Pvt. Ltd. And Whisper. More than 200 girlstudents of Acharya Narendra Dev College attended the talk delivered by Ms Yaashika Ranglani, a Corporate Trainer.

Workshop on stem cell donation and blood cancer:NSS@ANDC organized a blood cancer and stem cell donation camp in the College on September 14, 2022 to make students aware of the severity of the problems related to blood cancer and stem cell donation. The event was organized in collaboration with DKMSXBMST foundation. Many volunteers and faculty members donated their saliva for screening and grouping. This database would help people in need to get the stem cell of their respective group in case of emergency.

21 Microsphere 2021: An online International Outreach Program was organized to Celebrate International Microorganism Day as “MICROSPHERE 2021” by ANDC in collaboration with 10 different institutes to generate awareness about microbes to the school stuents on September 27, 2021. 22 One day interdisciplinary exhibit cum workshop “New Frontiers in Science”was organized under the aegis of DBT Star College Scheme organized a One Day Interdisciplinary Exhibit Presentation on “New Frontiers in Science” in the College premises on October 22, 2019. 23 Conducted two outreach programs (BASIC IV & BIOSCOPE I) at two rural schools (Government Senior Secondary School, Bani and Government Senior Secondary School, Biar) in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh under Student DBT Star College Program in collaboration with DDU and Ramjas College. There were at least 10 activities for the students prepared by different groups. Our college students, Sunidhi Aneja and Madhav demonstrated "Life in a drop of water through foldcope."The idea was to take student's interest towards a portable microscope i.e. a foldscope, which is cheap, accessible and easy to use so that students feel it easier to satisfy their curosity when they see something microscopic around them. 25 Learning Science: The ‘Do It Yourself’ way”: A Three day workshop entitled “Learning Science: The ‘Do It Yourself’ way” was organized for school students jointly by the Department of Botany and Zoology under the aegis of DBT-Star Scheme for College, in collaboration with National Bal Bhavan, Delhi from July 17-19, 2019. 38 students of classes IX-XI from different schools of Delhi and National Bal Bhavan participated in the workshop meant to inculcate their interest and curiosity in biological sciences.
